Linear Algebra is always the must have tool for any engineers into the bucket. Because whenever we implement on a system of multi dimensions these concepts comes very handy and helps to understand or frame the problem and answer it in a more generalized and concise way possible.
In this blog post I am sharing you the best resources available on the internet till date. Some of them are tutorials, courses, blogs and even YouTube videos.
My goal here is not to scare you by providing the massive resource list from picking everything from the internet but delivering what is best. You can use any of the mentioned reference material as per your convenience.
Update: there is now a full interactive series built on this list — Linear Algebra, Interactively — which works through the checklist below one draggable picture at a time, starting from what a vector is. Use this page for the source links; use the series to actually learn the material.
Here’s the list you are looking for:
- Course: MIT course by Gilbert Strang Link
This is an ultimate course/resource material you are looking for LA. It contains 34 Lectures recorded in MIT of around 40 mins duration. This course is preferred if you have time and know basic concepts otherwise I encourage you to see the lectures for minimum two times as the course content is heavily glued to each-other and professor builds concepts on top of the previous lectures.
2. Best visualization: Essence of Linear Algebra Link
This this the video playlist from 3Blue1Brown that I would recommend when you have around one day to summarize and just want to refer the Lie Algebra concepts then it is best. And if you prefer the Top-Down learning approach like me, than watch this playlist in a single sitting, get an overview and start MIT course of Gilbert Strang.
3. Interactive LA from ImmersiveMath Link
If you prefer reading, than this is great website which provides the written content along with the interactive GUI to work with LA. This is one of a kind experience worthy to try.
4. Imperial College of LONDON : 4 hour video: Link
This is a reference material for getting a bird’s eye view of the Linear algebra. Use this reference as to tally the understanding (watch it in 1.5x) or for skimming the concepts in single sitting.
Make sure at the end you have the decent understanding of the concepts such as:
- Basis Vectors
- Span
- Rank
- Dot Product - in physical sense (Projection)
- Matrix Product - in physical sense (Area/Volume/etc)
- (Linear) Transformation from one space to another
- System of equations and solving it
- Null Space
- Eigenvectors and Eigenvalues
- Singular Value Decomposition (Least, When and How to use it)
If you have a good understanding of the above mentioned topics then you are good to go!
